NICK SANDERS TRIO
Nick Sanders, piano;
Henry Fraser, bass;
Connor Baker, drums
|
|
Nick Sanders’ Trio returns to Cornelia St. Cafe with Henry Fraser playing bass and Connor Baker playing drums. They will be premiering new music that has been recently composed by Sanders’, some of which will be on their upcoming album set to be released early next year on Sunnyside Records. This trio has been playing together for close to 8 years and they have a psychic-like ability to communicate musically with one another. Please join them for an evening of new and original music.
“When you look at the sum total of this music—Sanders’ twisted visions, caliginous constructs, lighthearted gestures, and weighty thoughts—you see honesty, integrity, and artistry guided by personal expression. In art, be it musical or otherwise, that’s more valuable than gold.” - All About Jazz

JEFF DAVIS, TONE COLLECTOR
Tony Malaby, tenor sax;
Eivind Opsvik, bass;
Jeff Davis, drums, comp.
|
|
Tone Collector is a formidable trio that pushes the sonic boundaries of texture and color. Performing together since 2004, the trio blurs the lines between what is composed and what is improvised. Tone Collector recorded their debut album live at the Glenn Miller Café in Stockholm, Sweden over a two night run, and is fresh off a spring Midwest tour. Returning to the Cornelia Street Cafe tonight, this trio adventurous is not to be missed.
"Malaby, Opsvik and Davis are deeply sympathetic partners, and their interaction often reaches the highest level of cohesion.” - Nate Chinen (Jazz Times)
"Without falling into the predictable game of cat and mouse, these three are capable of a varied and inspired set of improvisational call and response. Tone Collector is the sort of creative improvised music that stands out in the crowd." Cadence Magazine

Keisuke Matsuno, guitar;
Ken Filiano, bass;
Max Jaffe, drums
|
|
Smashing Humans is a 5 piece avant-jazz band that is created by Tokyo native, NYC violinist Sana Nagano. Her compositions are naturally motivic with grid-like melody lines, along with underlining relentless rhythmic intensity. Sana Nagano is the kind of musician/improviser that recalls the very best of experimental jazz violin, resurrecting the spirits of Billy Bang, Mahavishnu Orchestra, and the full breadth of modernism all in one.
“Smashing Humans’ performance has some elements of jazz standards, but was evidently infused with improvisations.” “Elegant orchestrations of sounds, clearly conducted by the violinist” - Greg Stewart, Ragazine
