The Dan Rufolo Trio is quickly establishing themselves as a new exciting trio playing in the New York scene. Their debut album "Novelty" features an array of diverse original material ranging from traditional swing to the avant-garde. Pianist Dan Rufolo's bold, textural, vocabulary gives the rest of the group space to build and shape cohesive statements together. The ensemble works as a unit to create a musical environment where all ideas are valuable, so that risks can be taken to let the music grow organically. With open minds, and a "group above self" attitude, this trio continues to produce new music that is both exciting and memorable. Tenor saxophonist phemon, Rich Perry, will be featured in this special concert playing new compositions by Rufolo, and bassist Bill Thoman.

ART OPENING: THE CLOWN UNMASKED, PHOTOGRAPHS BY JIM MOORE
|
|
Jim Moore, perhaps best known for his appearance in MAN ON WIRE, where he recalled his role in recording the extraordinary feats of Phillipe Petit as he prepared to walk between the Twin Towers, has a long relationship with Cornelia Street. Thirty years ago his exhibit WOMEN ON A PEDESTAL portrayed women from every walk of life (including children) literally on a pedestal. This month he exhibits THE CLOWN UnMASKED, side-by-side portraits of clowns in and out of make up.
John Towsen, author of Clowns: A Panoramic History(1976) writes:
“If they hold a clown shown in New York and Jim Moore’s not there, do they still do the show?
I wouldn’t know, because I’m not sure if that’s actually happened.
Since his early days as a street performer and photographer in 1970’s New York, Jim has made it his business to know every variety of performer and to be everywhere they performed. And to photograph them. Constantly. He lived the life and knew the people, then and now.
Whether he shot you in performance, on location, or in his studio, he’s always had that uncanny ability to capture the essence of these highly individualistic characters—especially the clowns and eccentrics.
And he never stopped doing it. For 40+ years!
Like all fine photographers, Jim has more than just a keen eye and polished technique. He has an instinctual feel for his subjects, and, above all, their total trust.
In this revealing exhibit of miniatures, he shoots not only from his honorary front-row seat, but meets the performers backstage, in his studio, in their homes, their rehearsal spaces—capturing the person and the persona, and giving us a glimpse into a more deeply textured world.”

BLUE TUESDAYS: DOMINIQUE EADE
Julie Hardy, host
Dominique Eade, vocals;
Brad Shepik, guitar
|
|
Jazz singer/songwriter Dominique Eade will return to Cornelia Street with her esteemed duo partner, guitarist Brad Shepik, for an evening of new and old originals, unusual covers and standards, and perhaps a guest or two.
"Her voice was rich and clear and strong in all ranges; she had
musicianship and cool intelligence...she had absorbed some of Saran
Vaughan's fearsome technique." — Ben Ratliff, The New York Times
“Singer Dominique Eade has another kind of magic. There’s always a
touch of mystery to her silken renderings—at once luxuriant and spare.
The liquid sense of time and phrasing are entirely organic and arise
from the song itself. Eade has as good a sense of self-editing as any
jazz singer extant. The resources she holds in reserve—waiting for
just the right moment—make for a delicious undercurrent of tension.” -
