The bassist Mario Pavone works his strings with the force and persistence of a sculptor chipping away at granite. The sheer dynamism of his playing is matched by the lustre of his writing and arranging for small bands.

Alto Saxophonist/Composer Pete Robbins + sILENT Z
Recording Live at The Cornelia Street Cafe

This recorded performance will also mark the beginning of Robbins offering mp3s of live shows for sale through his website.

"What do you get when an aspiring horn player grows up listening to guitar rock, sampled hip-hop and probably a fair bit of Miles Davis' electric jazzphase? You get a fresh new sound from rising jazz saxophonist Pete Robbbins."
- Virginia Prescott, Word of Mouth on New Hampshire Public Radio

"The alto saxophonist Pete Robbins favors a species of fusionesque post-bop that's complex but welcoming, and ultimately light on its feet. His third album, "Do the Hate Laugh Shimmy" (Fresh Sound/New Talent), borrows its title from E. E. Cummings, and it earns that whimsical association through tangles of intertwining melody and stutter-step rhythm." (

8:30PM  MEM3
Ernesto Cervini, drums;  Michael Cabe, piano;  Mark Lau, bass
MEM3 image
MEM3 is the culmination of 4 years of close musical and personal friendship between three musicians from three different parts of the globe. The trio consists of Michael Cabe on piano from Seattle, Washington, Mark Lau on bass from Sydney, Australia and Ernesto Cervini on drums from Toronto, Canada. Their debut album is made up of original compositions from all three musicians as well as one traditional hymn. The group’s sound is influenced by the trio sounds of the great Oscar Peterson, Peter Erskine and EST.

MEM3's Pennsylvania Grey is exceptionally intelligent music, without being dryly intellectual. Deliciously textured and complex as the trio functions as a unit throughout. The interplay among the three instruments and between the composed and improvised music is seamless. The music is rich, luminous, and arresting. Ernesto's orchestral, melodic approach to the kit keeps things fluid. Mark's tone on the bass is beautiful and full, and Michael's sound is harmonically innovative and compelling. This is great stuff!
