DAN LOOMIS AND REVOLUTIONS
Jeff Miles, guitar;
Rob Mosher, clarinet;
Dan Loomis, bass;
Ronen Itzik, drums
|
|
REVOLUTIONS aims to keep revolutionary passion alive in America. To keep awake to the willingness to turn an old way on its head and do the messy, hard work of starting over to build something better. So much what is sacred to us in the cultures of the Western hemisphere was accomplished by people who were willing to completely re-imagine their world and had the unflappable persistence to see their vision through. We intend to keep that spirit alive by honoring these heroic actors in American (in the broad sense of the term, South and North America, indeed all the Western Hemisphere, bound together by our shared legacy as the ‘new world’ products of recent colonialism, population replacement, slavery and revolution from imperial oppression) revolutionary moments and movements. Our American history is rich with people who fought tirelessly for a world that seemed impossible given the parameters that they grew up with. We intend to keep that spirit of achieving the impossible, of overcoming intractable obstacles of tradition, alive by lifting up their lives and stories.
Of course, REVOLUTIONS is not a history class or a book or powerful orator. It is a musical ensemble. And how can a musical ensemble tell the story of history and recount the power of revolution?? Of course, we cannot do it in the traditional way. But to bring revolution it is necessary not only to know your history but also to have an overwhelming passion for a better world. This what the music of REVOLUTIONS aims to foster. That crying-out spirit of the revolutionary moment. That all-consuming desire to move forward past the immediately possible present to the audaciously improbable future.
Only July 4th, we will look beyond the usual suspects to celebrate the lives of South American and Caribbean revolutionaries. Come hear music telling the stories of Toussaint Louverture, Simon Bolivar, Jose Atonio Paez and Francisco de Miranda.

Connor Baker, drums
|
|
Nick Sanders’ Trio returns to Cornelia St. Cafe with Henry Fraser playing bass and Connor Baker playing drums. They will be premiering new music that has been recently composed by Sanders’, some of which will be on their upcoming album set to be released early next year on Sunnyside Records. This trio has been playing together for close to 8 years and they have a psychic-like ability to communicate musically with one another. Please join them for an evening of new and original music.
“When you look at the sum total of this music—Sanders’ twisted visions, caliginous constructs, lighthearted gestures, and weighty thoughts—you see honesty, integrity, and artistry guided by personal expression. In art, be it musical or otherwise, that’s more valuable than gold.” - All About Jazz
