Louise Rogers/Rick Strong: Bass-icaly Speaking image
The idea of a small ensemble had always interested us. We were drawn to and fell in love with the bass and voice concept: the intimacy, the space, and the woody, organic, acoustic sound.

“.. the most joyously encouraging way of expanding the audience for jazz I've heard is the work of jazz singer – educator Louise Rogers”
Nat Hentoff

“... establishes a new relationship between bass and voice...reminiscent of Tuck and Patti...you will long to hear this CD" Kim Nazarian
- New York Voices

"Masterful performance...refreshing to hear...this music is exposed and draws you into it."
Jerry Bergonzi - jazz saxophonist and teacher

"Achieves a beautiful mood with the voice and bass."
Luciana Souza - Jazz vocalist

“... a voice of subtlety and strength ... a beautiful rich tone on both upright and electric basses.”
Peter Eldridge – New York Voices. “Louise Rogers...great chops and a warm, witty approach to song...” Andrew Rowan – All About Jazz, NYC

8:30PM  CHRIS LIGHTCAP GROUP

Chris Lightcap group image
Having released 2 critically acclaimed releases with his two-tenor quartet, bassist and composer Chris Lightcap brings another configuration of new music to Cornelia Street Cafe. Lightcap has been featured in the bands of Craig Taborn, Joe Morris, Mark Turner and Regina Carter, and tonight he will lead a band featuring his longtime collaborator Tony Malaby on tenor sax as well as drummer Rodney Green and pianist Jacob Sacks.

"One of the bright lights of New York's younger players, the bassist has been fashioning a group sound around a pair of tenor saxophonists for years. His writing can be simultaneously demonstrative and reflective, an accomplishment that gives his music emotional breadth."
-Jim Macnie, Village Voice

"A bassist-bandleader who's made some excellent records with two tenor saxophones out front."
- Ben Ratliff, New York Times

"Bassist Chris Lightcap has worked alongside avant-minded mavericks such as Cecil Taylor, Anthony Braxton, and Joe Morris, but he's also right at home in more mellifluous units led by Regina Carter and Craig Taborn. perhaps that explains the infectious swagger and fat grooves he brings to bear on Bigmouth (Fresh Sound New Talent), a playful bag of tunes featuring saxists Tony Malaby and Bill McHenry and drummer Gerald Cleaver"
