Elene Dee, vocals;  Andy Laverne, piano
Conversation with Bill Evans, Elene Dee, Andy Laverne image
Two specialists of Bill Evans’ Music will revisit Bill's most daring pieces, as well as some of their own compositions. Elene Dee uses her voice as a musician vocalizing the original notes of Bill Evans. Along with Andy LaVerne they create a musical dialogue.

Andy is the recipient of five Jazz Fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, winner of the John Lennon Songwriting contest for his tune “ Shania" and the ISC for his tune "Peace of Mind". He is a prolific recording artist with over 60 CD’s as leader, and many more as sideman. “...Intelligent Design lives up to its name as one of LaVerne’s best efforts thus far and one of the finest jazz releases of the year.” (C. Andrew Hovan - All About Jazz)

6:00PM  ANDREA WOLPER QUARTET: THE WEAVING
Andrea Wolper, voice;  John DiMartino, piano;  Ken Filiano, bass;  Michael TA Thompson, soundrhythium
Andrea Wolper Quartet: The Weaving image

An "audacious artist who flouts genre limitations, singing songs for the love of it and delivering an inventive, thrilling, appealing musical vision" (Blogcritics). Singer, songwriter, poet Andrea Wolper's New York credits include Dizzy's, the Blue Note, JVC Jazz Festival, and she tours nationally and internationally. Embracing Cornelia Street Cafe's history as a home for lovers of jazz, cabaret, experimental music, and poetry, this "utterly refreshing" (JazzTimes), "highly original" (Contra Costa Times)" performer weaves together music, texts, and improvisations. With creative veterans John DiMartino, Ken Filiano, and Michael TA Thompson.

She fills torch songs with sensual longing, then makes abstract vocal improvisations feel intimate as meaningful conversation...highly recommended for anyone who believes in the timeless essence of cool. - Graham, Tucson Citizen

Dan Loomis presents “Job’s Trials: Our Trials” image

The Book of Job (one of ‘mysteries’ of the Old Testament) tackles the question of how to reconcile terrible suffering with faith in a good world. In doing so it invites us to ponder the unknowable and relentlessly hold onto questions that have no satisfying answers. Dan Loomis presents this story in a unique musical and theatrical experience. In this contemporary Oratorio two vocalists, a narrator (in the role of Satan) and a jazz trio guide the listener through the pivotal points of Job’s struggle to maintain faith and humanity.
