Cornelia In Exile: Entertaining Science image

The Chemist, The Architect, and You Know Who!

To imagine a structure and then express it in material form is one of the most satisfying of human activities. A defining features of architecture, it’s also at the very heart of synthetic chemistry. Dirk Trauner, professor of chemistry at NYU, will show that — despite a ten-billion-fold difference in scale — buildings and molecules have more in common than one might expect. Of course, destroying structures can be pretty satisfying, too, at least for some. How sturdy is the structure the Framers framed? How stable are the molecules they synthesized? Donald Trump and his wrecking crew are determined to find out. Reading from his just-released Trumpiad (Terra Nova/MIT Press), author and satirist Evan Eisenberg will trace Trump’s career from the murk of his ancestry to his latest high crimes and misadventures. Rudely interrupting Evan with musical interjections will be Andy Biskin (Goldberg’s Variations) on clarinet and Dave Soldier on banjo.
